THE YOUTH UNITED COUNCIL is a leadership program of United Way of Northwest Georgia, with programming provided by the University of Georgia’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, “Youth Leadership in Action.”
THE GOAL of the Youth United Council is to build individual leadership skills, foster positive group dynamics, and increase civic and community involvement. The curriculum simultaneously concentrates on youth development and youth leadership, two critical principles to the successful transition from adolescence to adulthood.
THE PROGRAM is designed to provide youth with a foundation of leadership understanding, Equip youth with the skills needed to become leaders, Cultivate the desire to be community leaders, Increase self-efficacy in becoming civically engaged, and Assist youth in developing the confidence to act in their schools, neighborhoods, counties, or any “community” in which they are part. By empowering our youth through this program, we will be cultivating the next generation of community leaders.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? This program develops youth leaders in 11th and 12th grade through the acquisition of leadership and citizenship skills through hands-on activities and real-life leadership opportunities.
REQUIREMENTS
Complete this online application.
11th or 12th-grade student in the Fall of 2025
Submit two reference forms found HERE
Attend a minimum of 6 out of the 8 module-focused meetings
Completed the past school year with a 2.5 GPA or higher
Must attend initial Welcome Party and Parent Orientation
The application deadline is Monday, April 28th, 2025, by 4:00 pm
